Roofing Systems and Installation Across Los Angeles

No single roof covering suits every house in Los Angeles. A 1950s ranch house in the Valley usually wears asphalt shingles, a Spanish-style bungalow in an older neighborhood often has clay tile, and the flat addition out back needs a membrane that keeps water out without any slope at all. Each of these systems has its own installation method, its own weak points and its own repair needs.

This category brings together the three systems Reyes Roofing installs and repairs most: shingle roofing, tile roofing and torch-down roofing for flat roofs. They cover most of what you will find on single-family homes, duplexes and small buildings across Los Angeles and the northeast San Fernando Valley.

Choosing the right system is partly about the house and partly about the climate. Los Angeles has intense sun, long dry stretches and short, heavy storms. Materials that handle heat and UV well, and details like flashing and underlayment that keep water out during a downpour, matter more here than the brand on the bundle.

Why work with Reyes Roofing on a roofing system

A roof is a system: deck, underlayment, flashing and covering all have to work together. Reyes Roofing works on shingle, tile and flat roofs, which means you get advice based on your house rather than on whichever product a crew prefers to install.

Each service page below explains the work, what drives the price and the questions homeowners most often ask. When you are ready, send the address and a description and we will follow up with a free quote.

Roofing Systems & Installation FAQs

Which roofing material is right for my Los Angeles home?

It depends on the house. Pitched roofs are usually shingle or tile, and many older Spanish-style homes were built for tile. Flat or low-slope sections, such as additions and garages, need a membrane system like torch-down. We look at what is already on the roof and what the structure can carry before recommending a change.

Can I switch from shingle to tile, or tile to shingle?

Sometimes. Tile is much heavier than shingle, so a roof framed for shingles may need structural work before it can carry tile, and a switch also affects the look of the house and local rules. We talk through what is practical for your roof before quoting.

Do all of these roof types need a permit?

Re-roofing and many larger repairs generally need a permit from the local building department. Which one applies depends on whether you are in the City of Los Angeles or a separate city like San Fernando. We can explain what applies at your address.

What if my house has more than one type of roof?

That is common. A house might have a pitched shingle or tile roof over the main structure and a flat roof over a garage or addition. We can handle each section with the system that suits it and quote the whole job together.
